SYMBIOTIC FLOW

Symbiotic Flow is a photographic project exploring the relationship between human beings and nature through works developed over many years around the idea of symbiosis.

My practice begins with materials gathered directly from nature. Bark is peeled, carved and polished by hand, while its texture, scent and changing character are kept as present as possible. At a time when our environment is undergoing profound change, the way materials are encountered and transformed is also part of the work: taking only what is needed and allowing the qualities of the material itself to guide the process.

Through the body wearing the works, the surrounding landscape, and the relationships between people, the project considers how human beings and nature might coexist. The photographs bring these elements together without separating the object from the place from which its materials originate.

The photographs were made at my dacha in Brandenburg, near Berlin, and around the nearby lakes—places that are part of my everyday environment. Long-time friends and former fellow students took part as models. Familiar nature, objects made from it, and personal relationships overlap within the images, creating a quiet reflection on gratitude, respect and living together with the natural world.
